CONSULTANCIES

This project seeks to consult the Youth of Kenya in the Youth Peace and Security (YPS) agenda especially in informing the process of developing a National Action Plan (NAP). This will help ensure a coordinated and collaborative process for youth-led groups to shape and contribute meaningfully to the NAP.

There are several efforts by young people in Kenya and other stakeholders to implement the YPS Agenda. However, these efforts are siloed and sometimes difficult to upscale to the national level due to inadequate structure hence no one knows what activities have been happening and the impacts of the engagement, which could also help inform potential threats and trends at the community, county, and nationwide. Because of this, national and local stakeholders do not fully benefit from the YPS agenda and the leadership of young people remains unrealized and unutilized.

The consultations, if fully operationalized, can contribute in ensuring the transformative element of United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 2250, 2419 and 2535 which recognizes youth as partners and agents of peace and calls for their participation at all levels of decision-making on matters of peace and security and governance.

As indicated in the Kenya Youth Development policy 2019, this can ensure commitments from national and local authorities as well as support from private, regional and global multilateral organizations to implement YPS resolutions, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and Sustaining Peace resolutions. This is an opportunity to ensure there is a clear and deliberate pathway for youth to participate in a national policy-shaping process.
