The Kenya Coalition on Youth, Peace, and Security (KCYPS) is an Umbrella Organisation of Youth-led organisations advancing the Youth Peace and Security (YPS) agenda accross Kenya.
It is committed to collective organizing and advocacy for the advancement of youth development in peace, and security in Kenya.
This coalition is a host for youth-led organisations, activists, advocates, and peacebuilders with government officials and national civil society organisations.
The Youth, Peace, and Security (YPS) agenda is a global framework that recognizes the crucial role of young people in promoting and maintaining peace and security.
The agenda emerged as a response to the distinct challenges faced by youth in conflict-affected areas and aims to empower young individuals as key contributors to peacebuilding and conflict resolution.
The United Nations Security Council Resolution 2250, adopted in 2015, was a landmark development that formally acknowledged the importance of youth in the maintenance and promotion of international peace and security.
The coalition is profoundly committed to empowering youth, recognizing them as valuable agents of change in peacebuilding efforts. It aims to provide platforms and opportunities for young people to actively engage in peace and security initiatives.
The coalition seeks to involve diverse youth groups from different backgrounds, regions, and ethnicities across Kenya. This inclusivity ensures a broad representation of youth voices in peacebuilding discussions and actions
The coalition upholds principles of equality and equity, advocating for fair treatment and opportunities for all youth regardless of gender, ethnicity, religion, or socioeconomic status. This commitment ensures that all youth have a voice in matters of peace and security
A cornerstone of the coalition’s values is the promotion of non-violence. It encourages peaceful methods of conflict resolution and rejects violence to achieve peace
