The Kenya Coalition on Youth Peace and Security condemns the killing of 3 peace ambassadors in Kerio Valley by Bandits and calls for justice for the victims and protection of Peace Builders.

The Kenya Coalition on Youth Peace and Security is concerned and deeply saddened by the reports and news that came from Kerio Valley on Monday, 6 January 2024. We echo the strong condemnation of the cold-blooded murder of three peace ambassadors in the Chesongoch area of Marakwet West. This reprehensible act poses a grave threat to the hard-earned peace in Kerio Valley. It is imperative that the government acts swiftly to bring the perpetrators to justice and reinforces security measures in the region.

Our heartfelt thoughts are with the families of the deceased during this challenging time. We urgently call upon the Interior Cabinet Secretary to prioritize the protection of peacebuilders, implementing decisive measures to curb any potential resurgence of banditry.

The brutal killing of these innocent men on a peace mission is an act of terrorism, undermining recent efforts to establish peace in the region. We stand united against such violence and appeal to the community to refrain from any retaliatory actions.

The government must uphold its commitment to disarm the bandits who pose an ongoing threat to the lives of those in the Kerio Valley belt. Ensuring the safety of the people and restoring peace must be the paramount focus. In honoring the memory of the fallen peace ambassadors, we call for collective efforts to guarantee the safety of individuals dedicated to peace and stability in the region. The legacy of these individuals should inspire a renewed commitment to building a safer and more harmonious community in Kerio Valley.
